Frivacados (aka Avocado Fries)

Avocado fries are light and crunchy and are served with spicy Sriracha BBQ sauce for the perfect side or party appetizer. You’ll love this alternative to french fries!

Avocado Fries

Avocado Fries are perfect for a New Year’s (or mid-year’s) Resolution.

Happy 2017, loves! What are your New Year’s resolutions this year? I have a few ideas in mind and am committing to doing yoga every morning and focus on a balanced diet. But I think that Gilded Gal said it best: to laugh through 2017. So, I have officially added another to-do for this year and I’m excited to laugh through the year with you.

Avocado Fries

If you’re like me and want to live a healthier year this year, then these Frivacados are for you (plus, they are so fun to say). I love how brands and restaurants are adding healthy options like zucchini fries, sweet potato rounds and cauliflower tots to their menus. With the importance of eating well and its effect on overall energy, I also want to provide you with a healthy fry option alongside your sloppy cheeseburger (all about balance!).

Avocado Fries

If you can, make Avocado Fries with your bestie.

Avocado Fries require some patience and I find that they are best made with two people:

  1. One to coat with egg and breadcrumbs
  2. One to watch and flip as they cook.

If you are going the independent route then break up the two steps; coat all avocados, then cook.  Either way, once you accomplish that golden brown, all your work will be worth it!

Avocado Fries

In summary, Avocado Fries are made with Panko breadcrumbs, which means a healthier, lighter fry – all ready for dipping.

The Jolly Hostess twist this week adds panko breadcrumbs to avocado fries as a light alternative to french fries.  Since no fries are complete without something to dip them in, these avocado fries are served alongside BBQ Sriracha sauce.  If you’re ever in a pinch and need a quick party app, have avocados that will go bad tomorrow or need a delish side for your next event, try these creamy and crispy bites and feel great about your new year foodie decision-making.

Super good at this process? My Panko Ravioli follows the same steps. If you are up for a delicious challenge, give the ravioli a try too!

Cheers!

Instructions
  1. Put egg, panko and Italian breadcrumbs in separate bowls.
  2. Put vegetable/canola oil in skillet and heat to medium.
  3. Cut (firm) avocado in 1/4" pieces.
  4. Dip avocado pieces in egg, Italian breadcrumbs, back in the egg and in the panko.
  5. Place avocados in hot oil, brown each side for around 10-12 seconds and turn. Make sure to brown each side. NOTE: oil will get hotter as you go, so you may need to turn it down if it burns the avocado too fast.
  6. Once done, place on paper towel lined plate.
  7. Make Sriracha BBQ sauce: mix BBQ sauce and sriracha until blended.
  8. Serve immediately.
